16-room mansion and 5,500-acre mountaintop estate in Moultonborough, NH, overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee and the Ossipee Mountains. Designed by Boston architect Thomas Beal for a prosperous shoe manufacturer, the mansion was completed in 1914 and is an unusual example of Arts and Crafts architecture in New England. The estate, which includes a stable/garage, a greenhouse, gatehouses, farm buildings and a golf course, was eventually opened to the public after a series of bad investments were made by the owner, and the house and contents auctioned off. Visitors may take a self-guided tour of the house as it was in the early 1900s; visit the Art Gallery, and hike. A gift shop and restaurant are on the premises.

The Children's Museum of New Hampshire offers opportunities for children and families to explore art, science, and culture through dozens of activities and exhibits. The recently re-opened Dover Adventure Playground features a life-size flat-bottomed vintage gundalow boat; a net climber; swings and slides; a 3-story Garrison tower; a 1,200 pound, 3x8 foot climbable Alewife granite fish sculpture; a splash pad; musical instruments; and a life-sized “whale's tail” sculpture perched on the roof of the Dover Pool. Regularly scheduled special events take place throughout the year, including the Dover Mini Maker Faire; Teddy Bear Clinic + Picnic; Toddlerfest; 5K Road Race + Kid-Venture Course; and Earth Day Celebration; among others. Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

The Gardner Museum houses the collection of Isabella Stewart Gardner, a local patron of the arts who died in 1924, in a building she commissioned to look like a 15th century Venetian palazzo. The center of the original building showcases courtyard plantings that reflect the seasons as they evolve throughout the year. In addition to her collection, which remains displayed exactly she arranged it per her will, there are changing exhibitions, concerts, lectures, family events, and an artist-in-residence program. In 2012, the museum opened an addition designed by Renzo Piano that houses a space for their concert series.

The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, located in Concord, NH, is dedicated to the two astronauts who came from the granite state—Christa McAuliffe and Alan Shepard. The Peabody Essex Museum grew out of the collection of East India Marine Society, an organization of Salem captains whose charter called for acquisition of “natural and artificial curiosities.” Its permanent collection contains art and artifacts of Africa, Asia, India, China (with a Qing Dynasty house brought from the Huizhou region), Japan, Korea, Pacific Islands, and features objects of maritime art and history that include paintings, drawings, ship models, marine decorative arts, tools, weapons, navigational instruments, and ship and yacht plans. In existence since 1882, the Portland Museum of Art has grown to house a collection of over 22,000 pieces. Its holdings include works of American, European, and contemporary art, and important pieces by Maine-associated artists such as Winslow Homer, Marsden Hartley, John Marin, Louise Nevelson, three generations of the Wyeth family, and John Greenleaf Cloudman. This pass is not currently available as our Library Membership for the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center only allows for seasonal discounted trail admissions.
During the season – the pass provides discounted ($12 each) trail admissions for four people. Plan approximately 2.5 hours to walk the 3/4-mile live animal trail has up close views of black bear, coyote, mountain lions, bobcats, river otters, foxes, and more in natural woodland enclosures. The trail meanders through open meadows, mature forests, and marsh boardwalks on a packed gravel path. Trailside buildings feature interactive exhibits that teach natural history concepts in meaningful and memorable ways. There are miles of other trails to explore – the Ecotone, the Forest, and the Mt. Fayal Trails. Library Patrons must bring the dated pass with them to the Admissions window at the Welcome Center. Patrons do not need to make advance reservations but trail tickets can be reserved by library pass holders at nhnature.org.

Strawbery Banke Museum is located in the South End Historic District of Portsmouth, NH, on a 10-acre campus that features more than 37 restored buildings built between the 17th and 19th centuries. Visitors may visit the historic buildings, some with staff in period dress engaged in traditional crafts such as boat-building, coopering, and wood-working; enjoy interactive exhibits about the history of the neighborhood and its preservation; and stroll and appreciate the heritage gardens and orchards, various heirloom breeds, and beehives. Themed centers provide different pathways for understanding the history. A museum store and a couple of restaurants are on the premises.

From May 1 through October 31, this pass provides free admission for 2 adults and children to the museum's historic buildings. The museum is a beautifully restored 10 acre historic Portsmouth neighborhood with over 40 historically significant buildings. The buildings are closed from November-April --except for special events. Created in 1915 with money from a philanthropist interested in promoting history, science and the arts to her fellow Dover citizens, the eclectic Woodman Institute Museum includes a medicinal & industrial garden; the oldest Sycamore tree in Strafford County; and four historic houses filled with artifacts connected to the nation's and Dover's past: The Woodman House (1818), The Damm Garrison House (1675), The John Parker Hale House (1813), and The Keefe House (1825). Of note in the museum's collection is the saddle used by President Abraham Lincoln when he rode to review troops shortly before his assassination. Changing exhibitions of artwork at the Thom Hindle Gallery include works available for purchase.
