The Children's Museum of New Hampshire offers opportunities for children and families to explore art, science, and culture through dozens of activities and exhibits. Among these are the Thinkering and Steam Innovation Labs; Dino Detective; Music Matrix & Sound Watch; Naturalist's Study; Cave Explorers; and Post Office. The recently re-opened Dover Adventure Playground features a life-size flat-bottomed vintage gundalow boat; a net climber; swings and slides; a 3-story Garrison tower; a 1,200 pound, 3x8 foot climbable Alewife granite fish sculpture; a splash pad; musical instruments; and a life-sized “whale's tail” sculpture perched on the roof of the Dover Pool. Regularly scheduled special events take place throughout the year, including the Dover Mini Maker Faire; Teddy Bear Clinic + Picnic; Toddlerfest; 5K Road Race + Kid-Venture Course; and Earth Day Celebration; among others. A museum shop is on the premises.

The Museum of Science in Boston is located on a piece of land that extends the width of the Charles River, connecting Boston and Cambridge. Dedicated to promoting and educating visitors about science and technology, the museum includes a planetarium, the world’s largest open-air Van de Graaff generator, an IMAX theatre, a butterfly garden, and permanent and changing exhibits on birds, insects and animals; space; dinosaurs; engineering; nanotechnology; math; biology; and more.

The New England Aquarium is home to thousands of aquatic animals, from the giant Pacific octopus to Northern fur seals to little blue penguins. They offer a wide range of exhibits, including a shark and ray touch tank and the Giant Ocean Tank, a four-story coral reef featuring hundreds of Caribbean animals. In addition, they have an IMAX theatre and run whale watch boat excursions in partnership with Boston Harbor Cruises from April through November.

Founded in 1823, the New Hampshire Historical Society collects objects, books, manuscripts, and images that document New Hampshire's history. Exhibitions at their headquarters in Concord, NH contain a range of objects, photographs, and documents that illuminate the state's history, art, and culture. These include Native American artifacts; items from the Revolutionary period through the Civil War and World War II; the 1818 eagle that once sat atop the state capitol; portraits of notable New Hampshire residents such as Franklin Pierce and Daniel Webster; early furniture, silver, and other decorative arts; 19th-century White Mountain landscape paintings; and memorabilia from New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation primaries. Temporary exhibitions focus on various aspects of the society's holdings. Research may be conducted in the on-site library.

All exhibits are open to the public - Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.        You must make a reservation with the Historical Society to use the  research library.

Pass provides free admission for 4 adults, children under 18 are free.  Full-time students and active military personnel and their families also are admitted free of charge with a valid ID.

This museum offers exciting exhibitions on the State's rich heritage and traditions as well as a variety of programs for children and adults throughout the year.  Pick up at Adult Circulation Desk.

Pass Benefits

This pass is not currently available as our Library Membership for the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center only allows for seasonal discounted trail admissions.   

During the season – the pass provides discounted ($12 each) trail admissions for four people.  Plan approximately 2.5 hours to walk the 3/4-mile live animal trail has up close views of black bear, coyote, mountain lions, bobcats, river otters, foxes, and more in natural woodland enclosures. The trail meanders through open meadows, mature forests, and marsh boardwalks on a packed gravel path.  Trailside buildings feature interactive exhibits that teach natural history concepts in meaningful and memorable ways. There are miles of other trails to explore – the Ecotone, the Forest, and the Mt. Fayal Trails.    Library Patrons must bring the dated pass with them to the Admissions window at the Welcome Center.  Patrons do not need to make advance reservations but trail tickets can be reserved by library pass holders at nhnature.org.

Strawbery Banke Museum is located in the South End Historic District of Portsmouth, NH, on a 10-acre campus that features more than 37 restored buildings built between the 17th and 19th centuries. Visitors may visit the historic buildings, some with staff in period dress engaged in traditional crafts such as boat-building, coopering, and wood-working; enjoy interactive exhibits about the history of the neighborhood and its preservation; and stroll and appreciate the heritage gardens and orchards, various heirloom breeds, and beehives. Themed centers provide different pathways for understanding the history. A museum store and a couple of restaurants are on the premises.

Pass Benefits

From May 1 through October 31, this pass provides free admission for 2 adults and children to the museum's historic buildings.  The museum is a beautifully restored 10 acre historic Portsmouth neighborhood with over 40 historically significant buildings.   The buildings are closed from November-April --except for special events.  The pass also provides admission to Baby Animals, July 4th: An American Celebration, Ghosts on the Banke, and the Candlelight Stroll.   [Note:  Candlelight Stroll passes are very limited - please reserve only one date per family.]

In the winter, this pass provides a 50% discount on admission to Labrie Family Skate at Puddle Dock Pond.    Labrie Family Skate at Puddle Dock Pond is an outdoor skating rink with professionally maintained ice.  Please be aware that ice conditions change frequently.  (Follow the Labrie Family Skate at Puddle Dock Pond Facebook Page for the most up-to-date schedule, closings, and changes, and/or call the rink at 603.422.0600 during the skating season.)  Library passes will be honored in person at the admission desk. Library pass holders are not able to purchase tickets online.

10% off purchases at Pickwick's at the Banke (Museum gift shop) and merchandise in the Lawrence J. Yerdon Visitors Center.
